Are you what we like to call a veteran parent? One that has experience raising kiddos into and through adolescence? If so, do we have a young lady who could use you in her life. Meet our friend Valerie. Valerie has traveled a winding, difficult road in her life, and at times, her behaviors reflect her chaotic upbringing. She struggles with anger and self-control, and she can be defiant when things don’t go the way she thinks they should. Most teens do these things, but Valerie’s reactions are amplified a little more than usual, and one of her responses when things get too overwhelming is to run away. But these behaviors are simply defense mechanisms that she’s learned over the years. The good news? She is able and willing to learn new coping skills, especially with a family of her own to wrap around her and model what a real family is like. Do you see what we meant by her needing you in her life? She has immense potential with the right guidance and support. She already has one special person in her corner, her grandmother. She loves Valerie, but she’s not able to care for her over the long haul and they both realize this. So you’d not only be gaining a daughter but a grandmother as well! Valerie is a special young woman who simply needs someone to take a chance and see her behaviors for what they are – a symptom of not knowing the kind of security and stability that a strong family brings. Are you willing to see the real Valerie?
