Aaron is a remarkable young boy who possesses a unique blend of strengths and challenges. His interests and talents shine through, even amidst the obstacles he faces. He loves playing basketball and video games. Aaron’s eyes light up when he’s on the basketball court or immersed in a video game. Whether he’s shooting hoops or strategizing in a virtual world, these activities bring him immense joy. When Aaron accomplishes something, he expresses his happiness by giving warm, heartfelt hugs. Whenever someone meets Aaron, they’re greeted with a huge smile and an enthusiastic hug. His ability to make others feel special is heartwarming, and his affectionate nature is endearing to everyone around him. Aaron does have a few challenges and struggles (but don’t we all?!). Aaron has some intellectual delays. Managing attention and focus can be challenging for Aaron, but he’s learning coping strategies. He also can have long tantrums, triggered by trauma-based issues, which sometimes lead to physical and verbal aggression. Aaron’s caregivers work tirelessly to support him during these difficult moments, and he’s making great progress with their help and the help of his team. Aaron also has specific dietary needs due to food allergies (dairy is a big one). Despite these obstacles, he approaches life with determination and resilience…and that patented huge grin of his that just lights up a room. Aaron thrives in an environment with clear boundaries. Consistency in discipline and rewards helps him feel secure. And he absolutely needs a structured routine. A well-structured daily routine provides stability and minimizes anxiety for Aaron. His ideal family will need to be committed to these habits to let Aaron continue making the progress he’s made so far. They’ll also need to have or develop an understanding of trauma-based behavioral issues. Aaron’s struggles don’t come from him being a bad kid with a temper. Far from it. His struggles are a direct reflection of the trauma he’s endured. Responding to his needs from that perspective will be critical. Aaron has a great team around him and a lot of support that will continue even after adoption. Aaron attends a self-contained class with an Individualized Education Program (IEP), and he has a developmental services waiver in place to support his care at home now and into adulthood. In other words, you won’t be alone! Aaron’s journey will require unwavering family support and care. His resilience and the love he receives from his caregivers make him a truly special young man.
